Arc Fault An arc-fault occurs when loose or corroded connections make intermittent contact and causes sparking or arcing between the connections. This translates into heat, which will break down the insulation of the wire and is in most cases the trigger for an electrical fire. By detecting arc faults and resolving the cause in an early stage, a possible fire and a lot of damage can be prevented. | |

Arc Fault Definition PV AFCI - PHOTOVOLTAIC DC ARC-FAULT CIRCUIT-INTERRUPTER A device that is intended to interrupt power delivered to an arcing fault when an arcing fault is detected by the AFCI. PV AFD - PHOTOVOLTAIC DC ARC-FAULT DETECTOR A device that is intended to provide arcing protection by enabling an interruption or shorting device to interrupt power delivered to an arcing fault. PV ID - PHOTOVOLTAIC DC INTERRUPTING DEVICE A device that is intended to interrupt a detected arcing fault. The device is generally enabled by another device which detects arcing, such an arc-fault detector. TYPE 1 DEVICE A solar photovoltaic device that is intended to detect or interrupt series arcing faults. TYPE 2 DEVICE A solar photovoltaic device that is intended to detect or interrupt both series arcing faults and parallel arcing faults. Arc Fault "Signature" Arcing creates “noise” Graph shows arcing and non arcing conditions in the time domain
..................... Red Graph shows Arcing condition ..................... Green graph shows non acring condition
THE SANTON ARC FAULT DETECTION UNIT: ADU Uses the frequency characteristics to determine arcing conditions. With a round transformer the analogue noise signal is fed into the electronics. The analogue signal is filter to specific bandwidth for arcing. The analogue signal is sampled by a Digital Signal Processor (DSP). The sampled signal profile is checked with an algorithm to determine if an arcing event is occurring. In case arc found: Buzzer sounds Red fault LED blinks Relay output changes state Arc fault reset possible with small pin
